Soul Focus

Lomography Singapore invited me to try out the Petzval lens. 

It's a beautiful lens and one that I'm not accustomed to in terms of looks and handling with it's watergate aperture style meaning you'll have to manually switch between aperture plates. At 85mm, it is simply made to do one thing perfectly awesome and that is to take great headshots in backgrounds lost in bokeh. 

I originally intended to use the lens for architecture purposes but I just had to test out it's main selling point. It's unusual bokeh swirls. I was left impressed with the results to say the least. 

On a side note, I found the use of a tripod with this lens to be almost a requirement if you need to get proper focussing as it's a little difficult (but not impossible) to do this handheld through the viewfinder. 

Anyway, here is a shot of Leila as she patiently posed for me while I did lots of trial and error.
